In Idaho, public charter schools may be authorized by either the board of the local school district in which they are physically located, or by the Public Charter School Commission (PCSC). Proposed, new, brick-and-mortar public charter schools must first apply to the local school district board. The district board may elect to approve the petition, deny the petition, or refer the petition to the PCSC. Virtual public charter school petitions must be sent directly to the PCSC. Responsibility and authority with regard to the oversight of a particular public charter school resides with the authorizer of that school.
