Julie Van Orden was elected to the Idaho Legislature House of Representatives in 2012. She served three terms on the House Education Committee, most recently as chair, and three terms on the House Agriculture Affairs Committee. She served for ten years on the Snake River School Board of Trustees.
Commissioner Van Orden has also served her community through participation in the Pocatello-Blackfoot Chapter of the Japanese American Citizen League, 4-H, Soroptimist International, Blackfoot mayors’ committees, and her church and PTA. She is presently a member of the Idaho Youth Ranch Board of Directors and commissioner on the Education Commission on the States and Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. She also serves on the National Conference of State Legislatures Education Committee, focusing on the State Policy and Research for Early Education Working Group.
Commissioner Van Orden and her husband live on their family farm in Bingham County and have four children and three grandchildren.
